That is Not My Account!
Have you found an account on your credit report that does not belong to you? You are not alone. This happens to millions of people annually. Some of these cases are innocent, as in the case of file merger errors. Other cases may be quite serious, as in the case of identity theft. The good news is that there are credit repair solutions to all of your identity concerns. But prior to employing any of these credit repair tools you will need to evaluate the situation properly.
Evaluating the Event
It can be a shock to find a mystery account on your credit report. How did it get there? Will it turn out to be a major problem? Or is it a simple mistake. File merger errors are the most innocent source of mystery accounts and can be dispatched quickly with a little credit repair, while identity theft requires a bit more attention. Here is a quick test that will allow you to determent the nature of the problem and the appropriate credit repair solution.
The Test
Take a moment to examine the balance of your credit report. How many unidentified accounts are there? You might want to highlight the accounts of concern for easy reference. Once you have found all of the issues, you must call the creditors. If you look towards the bottom of the credit report you should find a list of all of the creditors along with their phone numbers. Call them and ask if they have a record of the offending account in your name. If you are a victim of a file merger error the creditor will not have any record of the account. This means that the error is only on the part of the credit bureau, and can be cured with credit repair by writing a letter asking the bureau to block the file merger error. But how did this happen?
What Was The Cause?
File merger errors occur because the software the credit bureaus use to group your accounts for credit reporting allows for a limited number of non-matches within the data fields they use for matching. This means that if another person has enough common identifying characteristics, the non-matching data will be ignored and their file will be merged with yours. It is very common for siblings to have this problem as they may have matching last names, addresses, and similar Social Security numbers. But it is also common for non-related parties to encounter file merger errors as well.
Identity Theft and the FCRA
If your telephone call to the credit takes a different turn and they confirm that they have a record of the account in your name you may be a victim of identity theft. The unauthorized use of your identity is a serious crime and needs to be dealt with quickly. Fortunately, the Fair Credit Reporting Act offers an almost instant credit repair solution that will block fraudulent accounts from showing on your credit reports. You must get a police report listing the bad accounts. You will also need to prepare a letter avowing that the accounts are not due to any transaction entered into by you. Put these together with your identification and send it all to the credit bureaus. Per the FCRA you only have to send the package to one of the bureaus as they are each required to inform the others, but I advise you to send to all three. Once they receive your request they will block the offending accounts within four business days and initiate an investigation of the issue.
Protect Yourself
Anyone who has had their identity compromised, or has a concern about the potential unauthorized use of their identity, should take steps to protect themselves. There are several excellent credit repair tools available to safeguard your credit. The credit bureaus offer the option of inserting a Fraud Alert in your credit report. This alert will request prospective creditors to call you prior to extending credit. Unfortunately, this is not foolproof as many lenders miss these alerts. For real safety you should employ an additional credit repair tool, credit monitoring. Credit monitoring is offered by the credit bureaus and other vendors as well. It is inexpensive and will notify you of every material change in your credit report, from inquiries to new accounts.
Call a Friendly Credit Repair Expert
Perplexed or worried? You do not have to manage the process on your own. Professional credit repair services are very affordable and will make sure that every important step is taken to cure your identity problems and protect you properly against recurrence. Your credit is too important to ignore. If you can’t manage on your own, just hire a credit repair professional!

What is the big deal with the absolutely free credit report? Why is it so important that everyone look at their information on a routine basis? If you are wondering why your credit report is so urgent, you are not alone. Many people do not realize how a simple credit report can save time, money, and even an identity crisis.
You may be wondering why you would want to look at the mess that your report is sure to be in right now, but even people with completely destroyed reports need to keep an eye on their identifying information. There are three very important reasons to do this.
Money Matters: When do most people decide to finally check their credit report for the first time? When they apply for some type of loan and are denied, of course! Once they look into the reason for the denial they often find they have more debt and credit flaws than they knew about or even that there are mistakes on their report that need to be corrected.
The only way to fully protect your identity today is to have a constant eye on your credit report. If you wait until your loan application is denied, it is way too late to protect yourself.
Your Name: Credit reporting is about a lot more than getting approved for a home improvement loan or buying that fancy sports car in the future. It has a lot to do with catching identity theft before it totally ruins your name. If you monitor your credit you will catch fraudulent activity and may even be able to avoid it altogether.
Everyone is entitled to one absolutely free credit report every year, but this honestly is not enough. If you go a whole year without realizing someone else has used your credit, the damage could take you years to correct. Catch it within a week or a day of occurring and your damages will be limited, if not avoided altogether.
Peace of Mind: Think of all the little things you do on daily basis just to protect your personal information. Today, just a bank account number or lost driver’s license could mean devastation for your personal accounts and your reputation. If you have protection against any type of fraudulent access, you can completely wipe away this stress.
So, how long has it been since you checked your credit? Are you ready to live with less stress and protect your name? If so, get that free report right now. Then sign up for a service that will give you constant access so you never have to wonder what if you are protected again.

Did you know you can go online right now and view credit report information for your name? All you need is your social security number and answers to a few personal questions from your past, and you can see everything lenders and creditors see when they view your credit, plus more! Today, your handshake means nothing and your credit means everything. That is why you need to protect you name.
The mistakes that can be on your credit report right now may surprise you. Some people find that there are even alias names attached to their reports which are not legal names they have ever gone by. This happens when a creditor or debt collector makes a report under your social security number but gets your name wrong. This associates that name with your real name and your only recourse is to catch the mistake and dispute the alias.
You can also dispute any creditors or flaws that may be on your report wrongfully. Most people believe everything is done electronically these days and machines don’t make mistakes, but there are still humans on the other end of those machines. Mistakes are made every single day and the only way you will know about them is to go online and view your credit report.
The first thing to learn is that everyone is allowed to view their credit report from all three reporting agencies once a year, completely free of charge. This is the law. There are many resources online that allow you do this, but you have to decide whether you want to view them all at one time or look at them one at a time throughout the year.
There is a flaw in both of these methods. If you only look at one report every four months, you may miss something that appears on only one report but not the others. It is very common for some businesses or collection agencies only to report to one or two of the agencies.
If you check them all three once a year, you leave your most vital information unmonitored for a year at a time. This is not safe.
Is there a reasonable solution? You don’t want to continually pay to view your credit report, so the best way to fix this issue is to sign up for a service that will give constant access to all of your information for a very small fee. You may even want to sign up for services that will watch your accounts closely and notify you in the event someone pulls your credit or tries to use your name or social security number.

Telephone Common Sense
Credit repair offers several powerful techniques for dealing with collectors. Collectors are famous for high pressure phone calls. Here is a great way to manage those disturbing diatribes. You know better than to talk to strangers. So who told you that you should hold court with a collector on the phone? The next time a collector calls tell them that you do not discuss your financial affairs on the phone. Politely ask them to send something in writing. They will fight you, but stand your ground, say your bit, and get off the phone. Once you get the collection notice in writing you can move on to the next credit repair technique.
Validate That Debt
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act requires collectors to provide documentation of the validity of a debt in writing if you request it within thirty days of receiving a collection notice. This is a wonderful credit repair tool which should be employed with all collections. A surprising number of active collections are not legitimate. This means that they may have been previously paid, sold to other collectors, or be otherwise invalid. If a collector cannot document the subject collection they must halt all collection efforts and not report to the credit bureaus.
Stop Those Darn Calls
In addition to the common sense technique for handling collection phone calls mentioned above there are other handy credit repair techniques for controlling aggressive collectors. If you are called during working hours you need only inform the collector that your employer does not permit such calls. Per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, once informed, the collector must refrain from calling during those hours.
The Attorney Defense
This next credit repair tactic is not for everyone, but if you have the financial resources to employ an attorney to handle your collection activity you will enjoy a double benefit. Initially you get to enjoy the moment when you tell the collector that you have an attorney; once informed they are required to stop in their tracks and ask you for the attorney contact info. From that point forward they must communicate only with your attorney. Secondly you may find that many collectors give up on the spot. If they know that the collection is weak or undocumented they may vanish from your life then and there.
Cease Communication Use With Care
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act allows you to stop all communication from a collector by sending them a formal cease communication request in writing. This sounds like a pretty good credit repair trick, but you must be careful. Depending on the collector, the dollar amount, and the age of the collection, they may regroup and sue you. This can be very uncomfortable and even downright inconvenient. Before considering using this credit repair technique, think carefully!
Doubt Your Eyes
There is another arena in which collectors gather and generally cause discomfort; your credit report. If you have any collection activity at all you are well advised to examine your credit reports periodically. By law, there is supposed to be only a single collection account on your credit report for each debt. Because collectors buy and sell debt regularly you may end up with several collection accounts for the same debt. This must be corrected with credit repair. It may be on your credit report, but that does not mean that you should believe your eyes! Questionable collections should be disputed!
Hire a Credit Repair Company
Credit repair takes some effort. If you are too busy to learn the ropes or manage the process adequately you should consider hiring a professional. Credit repair services are very affordable and will give you the full benefit of their experience and expertise. They will analyze your credit report and identify everything that does not seem compliant. Once done, they will write dispute letters to the credit bureaus, help eliminate all of the invalid collections, and even identify any negotiation opportunities for the legitimate ones. Your credit is important! It’s time to take control. You can do it!

Examine Your Reports Closely
Credit repair requires a critical eye. Give yourself the benefit of the doubt. Question everything on your credit report that you are not completely sure of. It is no longer sensible to believe that the content of your credit report is accurate just because it is in writing. The entire credit reporting system, with its many participants, is prone to error. And these errors have the ability to depress your credit score and cost you money. Take your time, find every error, and get ready to dispute.
Question Collections
When examining your credit reports, give special attention to collections. Collectors buy and sell debt every day. If your account does not pay off, the collector will package it up and sell it to another collector who will try their luck. And each collector in turn will report your collection to the credit bureau. By law, when a collector sells a debt they must withdraw the account from your credit report. Unfortunately, there is no real motivation for them to do so and these erroneous accounts can linger needlessly for years. Now is the time for action!
Dispute Intelligently
The credit bureau dispute letter is the heart of credit repair. It is not hard to write a dispute letter, but is it challenging to make that letter effective. When it comes to credit repair simple is best. It may be tempting to tell your whole life story in your dispute letter, but your heartfelt tale will fall on deaf ears. The bureau dispute processing centers handle a significant volume of letters on a daily basis. The goal of a dispute clerk is to translate your letter as quickly as possible into a two digit code summarizing your concern. For best results, just say what is on your mind and nothing more.
Build New Credit Today
As important as the dispute process is, it is even more essential to your credit repair that you have open positive accounts. Your credit scores are based on everything on your report, both the negative and positive. Removing the negative will eliminate the burden on your scores. But your scores will not automatically rise. You need something good on your reports for your scores to improve. If you cannot get regular credit cards, get secured cards. They are the perfect credit repair tool and can improve your scores over 100 points within six months, if managed right.
Manage Revolving Debt Right
Your credit scores are very sensitive to the balances on your credit cards. This fact cannot be stressed enough. Many people working hard at credit repair are discouraged when their scores continue to languish in spite of perfect on-time payments. For the best credit repair results you should only use twenty percent of the amount available on your cards. To underline the importance of this matter it is worth noting that your revolving balances can move your scores over 100 points. A maxed out credit card will have a devastating effect on your scores. Watch your balances!
Budget and Save
For long term credit repair success you need to make sure that new problems do not arise. A fresh late payment will be a major setback. The best way to avoid the kind of financial stress that can lead to late payments is to have a financial buffer in the form of a savings account. When unplanned expenses arise they will not become unmanageable. If you do not seem to be able to save money you should start by creating a written budget. Examine all of your expenses and make sure that there is room for savings each month. Even a small contribution will do the trick.
Get Credit Repair Help
Professional credit repair help is very affordable! For a small monthly fee you can have someone review your credit reports, manage the entire dispute process, and guide you through the process of building and managing credit for credit score optimization. If you feel intimidated by the task, just reach out. You do not have to do it on your own. And your credit is too important to ignore another day. Do it yourself, or hire a pro, but take action now. You will succeed!

If you live in the U. S., then you are entitled each year to get a free copy of credit report. It was not always that way. In 2003, a law, called th Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, was passed. Up until then, if you wanted a copy of your report, you had to pay for it. This act saved people a lot of money since you had to pay nearly ten bucks a copy before it.
There are three main credit reporting agencies in the country. TransUnion, Experian and Equifax are now, because of the 2003 law, required to give each person who requests their credit report one free copy within a twelve month time frame. These three companies all must use a centralized source. Their source has a toll-free telephone number, a postal address and a Web site.
It is important to note that you are responsible for requesting your annual copy. The companies are not required to simply send out credit reports each year. You have three options to choose from when placing your request.
First, you can place your request using snail mail. There is a brochure describing the free report in detail. On the back of it is a form that you can fill out and mail in.
Do not forget the telephone. That source also provides a phone number. It is available to you for your convenience, too.
Do not forget that you can always visit the Web site and order your report online. Since there is only the single offcial site, be sure that you do not stumble across one that tries to charge you for your report. Some very creative and money hungry people have set up sites with similar names and try to get you to pay for your report. Do not fall for it.
In total, you are allowed three reports. Remember that each agency must provide you with one. When placing your request, you may choose to do one at a time or all of them at once. Just be sure to use that central source as it is the only way to make absolute certain that you get the credit report free.
If you get your annual free credit report, you may think that you cannot get another one that year without paying for it. However, there are a few circumstances in which you are able to get another free report. Here are a few examples of situations in which you could get that extra report: application for unemployment or to get public assistance;you live in a state that requires free annual reports from each credit agency; or denial of a loan, job or insurance policy due to your credit.
